Three cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones in Zhejiang have been named among the nation's top 10, according to a recent evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Commerce.

A total of 105 zones were assessed based on over 40 development indicators, including the volume of import and export, the growth rate of export and the number of high-tech companies. The pilot areas in the cities of Hangzhou, Ningbo and Yiwu are among the top 10.

As the first cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone set up in the nation, the Hangzhou pilot area has served as a model for many cities where such a zone now exists. The Ningbo pilot area has over the years introduced a raft of preferential policies to encourage export companies to develop cross-border e-commerce while the Yiwu pilot area focuses on innovation and logistics, among other aspects.

Since 2015, China has established 132 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones across the country. China's State Council had approved 27 new zones in February.
