More than 100 exhibits are being displayed at the Ningbo Clan Museum in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, showcasing the development of the city’s private banking industry.

The exhibition, entitled "Special Exhibition on Ningbo Private Banking Industry", kicked off on July 19 and is slated to run until Oct 8.

The exhibits, including written historical records, photos, antiques and videos, are divided into three groups, displaying the origin, development and success, and influence of the city's private banking industry, respectively.

"We want to showcase the stories of Ningbo merchants and the currency culture in China through the exhibition," said Wang Tianyang, deputy secretary general of the Ningbo Municipal Currency Institute, a curator of the exhibition.

As a Ningbo nursery rhyme goes, east or west, Ningbo Jiangxia is the best. During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Ningbo saw the rapid circulation of currency, making Jiangxia Street a hot spot for private banking. The street was also hailed as the "Oriental Wall Street".

The private banking industry provides a solid foundation for the development of the city's finance industry, and the accounting system that these bankers created essentially marked the start of China's modern financial history.

A summer camp will also be held, during which teenagers will learn about private banking through exposure and context.
