Digital economy gains traction in Ningbo

The added value of the digital economy's core industries in Ningbo registered an average annual growth rate of 18 percent during the past five years, local authorities said recently.

The city also saw an uptick of 8.1 percent year-on-year in this regard in the first half of this year, an indication that growth momentum has been robust.

Ningbo now has a complete integrated circuit industrial chain. In 2021, the city's integrated circuit and related industries (excluding integrated circuit design) had a total industrial output value of 41.99 billion yuan ($6.46 billion), up 32.1 percent year-on-year.

The city is currently home to 1,137 above-designated-size enterprises in the digital economy, among which four have an industrial output value of more than 10 billion yuan, five have an industrial output value of more than 5 billion yaun and 44 have an industrial output value of more than 1 billion yaun.

Sixty-three manufacturing enterprises from Ningbo have the highest market share in their niche markets in China, the most in the nation. Among them, 25 are engaged in the electronic information field.

To date, the city has also built nearly 20,000 5G base stations. Ningbo has also been selected as one of the top 10 cities in China in terms of 5G network quality by China Mobile, and has been ranked first in a national appraisal for urban network quality.

In addition, Ningbo has constructed five national industrial Internet platforms and 23 such platforms at provincial level and has won 26 national awards in the industrial internet field.
