Ningbo's Xiangshan county launched a marine-themed innovation and venture conference on Sept 24 as its latest effort to attract global talents.

The conference highlighted introducing talents and projects in eight industries including marine new materials, marine new energy, shipbuilding and marine transportation, marine equipment and modern fishery in Xiangshan.

Its opening ceremony witnessed the signing of eight projects worth 9.56 billion yuan ($1.47 billion) in the aforementioned sectors.

The conference also coincided with the 16th China Marine Forum, which also opened the same day.

The forum, jointly sponsored by the China Pacific Society and Ningbo Municipal People's Government, gathered a number of marine scholars from across the country.

During the event, the China Pacific Society inaugurated a branch for R&D in the marine ecological industry, Xiangsahan reached a strategic partnership with the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the award ceremony for the 2022 Ningbo (Xiangshan) Global Marine Economy High-level Youth Talent Entrepreneurship Competition was staged.

Xiangshan is striving become a national demonstration zone for marine economic development. It excels when it comes to marine equipment, marine smart technology, marine tourism and fishing.
