Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province was ranked 14th on China's emerging city rankings for 2022, which was recently released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The EIU started releasing the rankings in 2010 in an effort to identify the greatest growth potential in urban China.

This year, it evaluated 108 major cities in the nation based on 61 indexes including economy, population, trade, finance, logistics and education.

Ningbo has posted robust growth in population in recent years. As of the end of 2021, the city had a permanent population of 9.54 million, an increase of nearly 2 million when compared with 11 years ago.

Ningbo is positioned as a world-class city in the spatial collaborative plan for the Shanghai metropolitan region jointly released by Shanghai and Jiangsu Zhejiang provinces in late September.

Hangzhou topped this year's rankings, followed by Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Beijing, Zhuhai, Hefei, Chengdu and Nanjing.

Jiaxing, another city from Zhejiang was ranked 12th on the list.
