China will accelerate the construction of digital infrastructure as part of its overall efforts to build itself into a manufacturing powerhouse, a digital China with a smart society, a senior official said on Thursday.

Zhang Yunming, vice-minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the nation's top industry regulator, said China has made remarkable progress in the construction of digital infrastructure in recent years.

"More efforts will be made to promote the evolution and upgrade of digital infrastructure, advance the deep integration of digital infrastructure and the real economy, and build a solid foundation for high-quality economic and social development," Zhang said.

He made the remarks at a forum of the 2022 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit on Thursday.

China had more than 2.2 million 5G base stations nationwide by the end of September, accounting for more than 60 percent of 5G base stations worldwide, MIIT data showed.

Wu Hequan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said given the rapid increase in social demand for computing power, more efforts are needed to build computational networks.

A computational network is a new information infrastructure that allocates and flexibly schedules computing, storage and network resources in accordance with business requirements.

Yu Wen, product director of the internet of things, or IoT, at Vivo — a Chinese smartphone maker — said that as digital technologies become more central to people's lives, there is also growing demand for easier interaction among different devices like smartphones and automobiles.

Yu also said most car-smartphone connection solutions in the market are far removed from the actual needs of users, which lead to poor user experience ultimately.

Vivo shall endeavor to offer solutions to users in the internet of vehicles industry, and hopes that users will not be restricted to just one company's product portfolio, Yu said.

Vivo showcased its internet of vehicles solutions at the Light of Internet Expo, part of the 2022 WIC.
