Online sales in Ningbo soar during shopping festival

Online retail sales in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province hit 22.75 billion yuan ($3.25 billion) during this year's Double 11 (Nov 11) shopping festival, rising by 19.3 percent year-on-year, local authorities said.

The amount accounted for 13.7 percent of Zhejiang's total and was the second highest in the province, only behind Hangzhou, according to the Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

Specifically, the online sales of goods reached 21.86 billion yuan, accounting for 96 percent of the city's total.

The top three categories of commodities sold online from Ningbo during the shopping spree were household appliances and audio-visual equipment, clothing, shoes, hats and textiles, as well as daily necessities, accounting for 31.4 percent, 24.7 percent and 13 percent of the total respectively.

Online retail sales of the city's rural e-commerce businesses reached 8.87 billion yuan, ranking second in Zhejiang.

During the shopping extravaganza, Cixi, Yuyao and Ninghai were the top three places in Ningbo in terms of online retail sales in rural areas.

More than 28.76 million yuan worth of agricultural products was sold during the festival, accounting for 6.3 percent of the provincial total.

A total of 520 companies from the city saw their online retail sales top 1 million yuan, with the top five being Fotile, Kuka, Qinyuan, Peacebird and GXG.
