Winter bamboo shoots produced in Ningbo's Zhenhai district recently entered the market.

According to Hong Jimeng, a resident from Hengxi village, Jiulonghu town, there is a bumper harvest of bamboo shoots this year due to abundant rainfall.

Hong, who runs an agritainment facility in the village, said the dish featuring fried bamboo shoots and shredded pickled cabbage has recently become a bestseller among guests.

Bamboo shoots are available in Ningbo most of the year, but they taste different depending on the season, according to Hong.

Compared with bamboo shoots in spring and summer, those grown in winter have a shorter growth time and are relatively smaller in size, but they are more tender and crisp and less fibrous.

Visitors to Hengxi can now help themselves to dig as much winter vegetables as they want without having to pay.
