Ningbo Zhoushan Port handled 1.16 billion metric tons of cargo in the first 11 months of this year, an increase of 3.41 percent year-on-year, official data show.

The port's container throughput recorded a yearly uptick of 7.84 percent to 31.26 million TEUs over the 11-month period.

The steady growth seen at the port despite waves of COVID-19 outbreaks across China earlier this year is largely due to sustained efforts by the operator to improve overall operation efficiency and ensure the stability and smooth operation of supply chains.

Ningbo and Zhoushan, both of which are home to the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, the world's largest port by cargo throughput volume, were ranked 10th among global shipping hubs in terms of comprehensive strength, according to the Xinhua-Baltic ISCD Index 2022.

The index was released by the Baltic Exchange, an independent source of global maritime market information, and the Chinese state news agency Xinhua, on July 11.

This is the second time the two cities in East China's Zhejiang province have been ranked 10th following their first time in the previous year.
