Ningbo Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province handled more than 3 million TEUs in January, setting a new record for the same month in the port's history, according to official data.

It is the second time that the port has achieved the 3-million-TEU feat in a single month, doing so previously in July 2022.

The robust growth stems primarily from its operator's sustained efforts to expand business domestically and overseas, experts noted.

In January, the port launched an additional shipping route to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. It also teamed up with China State Railway Group Co Ltd to build itself into a hub in the nation's east-west transportation channel featuring a mechanism where goods are first loaded onto trains to the port before being transported overseas by sea, and vice versa.

In addition, efforts made by the port to ensure its normal operations despite adverse weather in January, as well as to facilitate the upgrading of old facilities and the commissioning of new ones have also played a part in the growth.
