Xiangshan white geese was recently recognized as an national agricultural product with excellent quality, according to the Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The recipients of this honor have a specific geographic origin usually related to a county, own a stable consumer market and possess certain qualities such as high nutrition.

Xiangshan white geese primarily refers to geese raised in 15 towns in Ningbo's Xiangshan county. The birds usually have white feathers, orange-yellow shins, jade white claws and a medium-sized body.

The breeding of white geese in Xianshan can generate an output value of 600 million yuan ($85.7 million) annually. These geese have been introduced to 13 provinces across the nation to date, helping more than 2,000 farmers grow their incomes.

To date, Ningbo is home to two such agricultural products, with the other being Yinzhou pickled cabbages, which has been exported to countries including Canada and Australia and can generate more than 200 million yuan in annual sales.

Both Xiangshan white geese and Yinzhou pickled cabbages have also been designated as geographical indication (GI) products, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
