Fenghua peaches from Ningbo, Zhejiang province will soon enter the European market.

The peaches are known for their sweet and juicy taste and were named one of China's geographical indications, a legal label for products that come from a particular region. The popular peaches are a major source of income for farmers.

With the arrival of summer, peach farmers in Fenghua are now hard at work harvesting their produce.

A farmer surnamed Wang is busy picking peaches in a garden in Chenjia'ao village. The fruits will be transported to Ningbo Dabu Food Co Ltd, where they will be sorted, packed in cold-chain shipping boxes and sent abroad after being inspected by Ningbo Customs officers.

"The first shipment of peaches will soon be sent to the Netherlands," said Fu Zhenghua, the company's general manager, "We've been selling Fenghua peaches in Hong Kong for the past eight years. But it's the first time we've exported them to Europe.”

To ensure the freshness of the fruit during transportation, the local customs formed a team offering one-stop guidance for farmers. A green channel was also launched for fresh foods. It takes farmers no longer than 24 hours to ship their peaches after picking them.
