Ningbo runners continue clothing donations for Liangshan children

More than 100 running enthusiasts in Ningbo, Zhejiang province have transformed their passion for running into a powerful force for charity, donating winter clothes for children in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture in Sichuan province.

In 2021, a group of running lovers at the Xiangyuan Community established a running club. Over the past three years, the number of club members has doubled. The average age of the members is around 40 years old. They all share the same passion for running and charitable endeavors.

The running club launched a charitable campaign to call for winter clothing donations to children in Liangshan, which has become its yearly routine.

In 2021, they collected 15,000 pieces of winter clothing in two days, with half of them being brand new. In 2022, Li Fangli, head of the club, looked round for a suitable clothing manufacturer and ordered more than 1,500 pieces of clothing for children in Liangshan.

This year's charitable campaign started over a month ago, when the club members contacted officials in Xide county, Liangshan. The donation ran for a week, from Nov 6 to 12, during which time workers and residents of Xiangyuan Community also attended. More than 2,000 pieces of winter clothing were collected.

Li Su'e, a member of the running club, donated 43 clothing items and six pairs of shoes for infants and toddlers. She said that she wants to help new mothers and babies. 

According to an official of Xiangyuan Community, this year's campaign has been extended from one day to a week, and the second week of November will be designated as the "Week of Clothing Donation" in the community.
