Over the past 25 years, an anonymous donor in Ningbo, Zhejiang province has donated to the Ningbo Charity Federation using the "Shun Qi Zi Ran" ("let things take their own course") alias.

Every year between mid-November and early December, the donor sends a letter to the federation with a nonexistent return address and aliases of "Shun Qi Zi Ran","Shun Shun", "Shun Qi", and "Ran Ran". In the letter is a stack of remittance receipts.

According to a worker at the federation, the first donation from the donor came with a note that read "good deeds should go unsaid while misdemeanors should be avoided, and then let things take their course."

This year, the donor donated 1.08 million yuan ($148,902), reaching a cumulative total of 15.77 million yuan.

According to the donor's intention, the donations have been used to bolster education, and the details of the allocation have all been posted. More than 2,000 college students have benefited from the donations.

The anonymous donor has also sparked a trend of anonymous donations in Ningbo. Donations from anonymous donors exceeded 50 million yuan.

" 'Shun qi zi ran' has become a symbol of charity in Ningbo," said an official of the Ningbo Charity Federation.
