Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province has recently received official approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to establish a national internet backbone link point, making it the second non-provincial capital city in China, following Qingdao, to host a direct connection point.
The direct connection point is a crucial part of China's internet interconnection architecture and will greatly benefit local businesses and residents. It will allow networks operated by China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom to directly interconnect in Ningbo, eliminating the need for network transfer through the existing direct connection point in Hangzhou. This is expected to significantly reduce network delays and improve overall network performance by 50 percent.
The three major telecommunications operators have pledged to expedite the procurement and configuration of necessary network infrastructure to complete the construction of the Ningbo direct connection point by May 17, 2024.
In addition to improved network performance, the new infrastructure is also instrumental in meeting stringent network latency requirements for the development of advanced technologies like autonomous driving in Ningbo.
