With the arrival of winter, Ninghai Bay in Ningbo, Zhejiang province has become a haven for migratory birds.
Ninghai Bay is located in the middle of the migration route between East Asia and Australia. With a long coastline, it is home to vast mud flats and wetlands, making it a great stopover area for migratory birds to rest and replenish their energy. After resting, most of these birds continue their migration, while some choose to stay and become "new residents" of Ninghai Bay.
In recent years, Qiangjiao town has promoted environmental protection and wetland restoration. A volunteer bird protection team was established to carry out bird monitoring, patrol and protection, as well as public education activities. The team currently consists of 153 members.
"We discovered a group of birds at Ninghai Bay three days ago. It's the first time that common redshanks and pied avocets have been spotted in the area," said Dong Anhao, the team's leader.
Dong said that different species of birds, including wild ducks, wild geese, common cranes, and grey herons, have rested at Ninghai Bay since November.
