The Ningbo Museum in Ningbo, Zhejiang province launched an exhibition on Dec 5, displaying 198 artifacts from prehistory to the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220).
The majority of the 198 artifacts are bronze exhibits from the Shanghai Museum. The exhibition, which is slated to run until March 3, is a cooperation project between the two museums.
The exhibition showcases the evolution of ancient Chinese civilization in four aspects: politics, ritual systems, Chinese characters, and beliefs.
In addition to the bronze, jade, bone tools, old coins, and pottery are also displayed. Some of the exhibits are cultural relic units under national-level protection.
"It has been 14 years since the two museums cooperated to launch an exhibition," said Zhang Liang, director of the Ningbo Museum, "The bronze artifacts are relatively rare at exhibitions held in southern China. We can learn how ancient Chinese people saw the world and their expressions of rituals through the bronze artifacts that were used as important ritual vessels in ancient China. I believe that visitors will get something out of the exhibition."
