Ningbo draws massive influx of visitors for New Year celebration

Ningbo experienced a significant surge in visitor numbers as it rang in the New Year with a plethora of exciting cultural and tourism offerings.

According to data released by the Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism, the city, located in East China's Zhejiang province, hosted over 80 cultural and tourism activities during the New Year's Day holiday from Dec 30 to Jan 1. These events collectively attracted 2.01 million tourists, marking a 72.09 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Breaking down the statistics, the top three county-level areas in Ningbo that recorded the highest influx of visitors during the three-day break were Yinzhou district, which welcomed 538,500 visitors, followed by Haishu district with 421,000 visitors, and the county-level city of Cixi with 346,700 visitors. These figures represent a year-on-year uptick of 99.52 percent, 90.93 percent, and 82.01 percent, respectively.

Among the hottest scenic spots in Ningbo were Ningbo Museum, Tianyi Pavilion, Lingyan Mountain, Dongqian Lake, and the Shangliangang ski resort. These attractions captivated visitors with their unique offerings and added to the overall appeal of the city as a tourism destination.

Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Guangdong emerged as the major sources of out-of-town tourists for Ningbo during the holiday, contributing 17.14 percent, 12.9 percent, and 9.98 percent of the total visitor count, respectively.

Regarding the duration of tourists' stays, the average visitor spent over two nights in Ningbo, with an average stay of 2.03 days. Visitors from within the province stayed for an average of 1.76 days, while those from outside the province extended their visits to an average of 3.32 days.

To celebrate the festive season, attending New Year's concerts, enjoying New Year's Eve shows, and exploring trendy markets became popular activities for both locals and tourists. Additionally, cultural venues such as museums continued to attract a steady stream of visitors, enriching their cultural experiences.
