Ningbo companies showcase innovation and heritage at CES
Companies from Ningbo in Zhejiang province played a notable role at the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show in the United States by showcasing their innovations.
The CES is an annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association and is one of world’s most influential technological events. This year's CES was held from Jan 9 to 12, attracting over 4,000 exhibitors, including dozens from Ningbo.
The Ningbo companies blended new technologies with local elements, not only showcasing their products but also promoting the city's culture.
The VR exhibition hall of Tianyi Pavilion, China's oldest surviving private library, located in Ningbo, was displayed at the show. Due to efforts to conserve the ancient architecture, the pavilion's Baoshu Building is not open to public. But in a unique use of VR technology, people can "enter" the historical building from afar.
After experiencing the VR exhibition hall, a visitor from South Korea said that he would like to pay a visit to Ningbo in person.
"Tianyi Pavilion is a landmark of Ningbo, and CES is the world's largest consumer electronics expo. It's a wonderful opportunity for us and we want to bring more of Ningbo to the event," said a manager of Gelian Electronics.
In addition to sharing Ningbo's cultural and tourist spots through VR, the company is also showcasing the city's industrial prowess.
Gelian specializes in the design and manufacture of kitchen appliances and smart electronic products and it spent over a year producing an intelligent cooking robot. Equipped with hundreds of recipes, the machine can cook a variety of Chinese and Western dishes.
