Ningbo buzzing with exciting volunteer activities
In celebration of the 61st "Learn from Lei Feng Day", Ningbo, Zhejiang province is holding various volunteer activities, doing everything from enhancing community safety to supporting local businesses.
Lei Feng, a young Chinese soldier who died in an accident in 1962 at the age of 22, has become a cultural icon symbolizing selflessness, modesty and dedication. Mar 5 is designated as "Learn from Lei Feng Day."
In recent days, a wave of volunteer events has swept across volunteer stations, villages, schools, and commercial areas around Ningbo.
On Mar 1, Xindian Community in Haishu district cooperated with doctors and pharmacists from local hospitals to offer one-on-one medical services for 121 elderly residents with chronic diseases.
Yinzhou district kicked off its "Lei Feng Volunteer Service Month" event on Mar 2, launching a "Warm Service Stations" map and ten service projects aimed at newly-employed individuals in the district.
Twelve volunteer teams in Beilun district established a volunteer service alliance on Mar 3 to help local companies and workers.
Six experts were invited to help volunteers in Jiangbei district to improve their volunteer skills on Mar 4.
As the volunteer activities continue to be held across the city, more and more people are joining in the spirit of selflessness.
The statistics shows that over 80,000 volunteers in the city have participated in more than 6,000 activities, benefiting upwards of 100,000 residents.
