Runners gather for Ninghai marathon

The 2024 Ninghai Marathon commenced with the firing of the starting gun in Ninghai county, Ningbo on March 17. Nearly 10,000 runners from 13 countries worldwide gathered to partake in the event.
The Ninghai Marathon has been certified as an A-class event by the Chinese Athletics Association and is the county's first large-scale urban marathon.
According to the Zhejiang Marathons and Running Association, the province hosted 202 marathon and road running events in 2023, with 67 featuring half marathons or longer, including 27 A1-class events certified by the Chinese Athletics Association. Cumulative participation exceeded 600,000.
Starting from Ninghai's West Gate City Tower, the race route wound through main urban arteries and landmarks, showcasing Ninghai's urban charm.
The event's full-service system, centered around the runners, also received widespread praise from participants.
"The racecourse in Ninghai is incredibly scenic and spacious. What struck me most were the enthusiastic spectators along the route, who provided me with immense motivation," said Li Zicheng, who participated in the half marathon.
Following the fierce competition, Kenyan runner Maina Gerald Wanjagi claimed the men's full marathon title while Ethiopian athlete Bikile Teferi emerged victorious in the women's category.
