Ningbo, located in East China's Zhejiang province, has emerged as the leading city among those with 3 to 4 million registered cars nationwide in terms of traffic health level, according to a recently released report on transportation in China's major cities in 2023.

The report, compiled by Gaode Maps, evaluated the overall transportation conditions of 50 major cities in China. It utilized a traffic health index system that considered factors such as the proportion of congested road sections and the average travel speed during peak hours to gauge a city's general transportation conditions.

This index is directly correlated with the health of traffic. In 2023, Ningbo achieved a rate of 66.79 percent, securing the top position among cities with 3 to 4 million registered cars in the nation. Following Ningbo were Shijiazhuang, Dongguan, Tianjin, Foshan, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Qingdao, Shenzhen, and Changsha.

Notably, Ningbo ranked ninth among 50 major cities nationwide and claimed the third spot in cities with a car ownership of over 3 million in terms of the service level of signal-controlled intersections. This achievement can be attributed to the implementation by local traffic authorities of measures such as the application of smart technologies and the optimization of the road network to enhance local transportation services.
