Ningbo in Zhejiang province kicked off its annual city-wide reading campaign on April 21, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing a literary culture.

As Zhejiang's first city to legislate efforts promoting widespread reading, Ningbo has designated April as its Reading Month. This year, under the theme "Reading Classics with Youth", the city aims to unite various municipal departments, districts, social organizations, libraries, and bookstores to promote reading culture among youth.

The innovative "Reading Classics with Youth" campaign aims to immerse youngsters in the richness of literature and traditional Chinese culture through classics. The city-wide reading activities will involve various approaches, including family reading, teacher-led reading, community reading, celebrity-led reading, and remote reading.

A list of 200 classic books suitable for youngsters was released at the launch ceremony, along with 120 traditional cultural sites suitable for parent-led educational tours. Also, 133 reading corners have been set up around the city to host over 3,500 reading activities.

Local authorities have purchased 120,000 classic books to distribute to 20 Xinhua Bookstores in 10 districts across the city, offering parents an opportunity to partake in this gift of literary enrichment for their children.

Ningbo's libraries, bookstores, social organizations, and enterprises have collectively orchestrated over 10,000 vibrant and multifaceted reading activities slated to unfold throughout the year.
