Eleven-year-old prodigy Wang Muyi from Ningbo, Zhejiang province triumphed at the recently concluded 2024 Asian K Championship.

Wang clinched the top spot in the U12 age group for rock climbing and secured second place in the difficulty category of the contest, which concluded on May 3 in Meishan, Sichuan province.

Currently a fifth-grade student at a school affiliated with Ningbo University, Wang devotes her spare time to honing her climbing skills. Her journey to success began in 2022 when, at the age of nine, she made headlines by conquering the challenging outdoor climbing route "China Climb" in Yangshuo county, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. This feat not only established her as the youngest climber in China to scale a 5.14A difficulty level route but also as the sixth female climber in the nation to accomplish such a demanding outdoor climbing route.

The 2024 Asian K Championship, organized by the Asian Council of the International Federation of Sports Climbing, featured three disciplines: difficulty climbing, speed climbing, and rock climbing. The competition was divided into two age groups, U12 (10-11 years old) and U14 (12-13 years old), with separate categories for male and female participants.

Drawing in 143 athletes from 10 countries and regions, including China, South Korea, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong, this year's championship marks the sixth time it has been held since its inauguration in 2017.
