Yan Ziyi from Ningbo, Zhejiang province, claimed the gold medal in the women's javelin throw at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, early on Aug 31 Beijing time, leaving her competitors trailing by a significant margin.

Yan, who was the third athlete to take the field in the final round, immediately established her dominance with a first-attempt distance of 60.10 meters. She continued to impress, recording throws of 60.31m, 63.05m, and 60.44m, with her third-round effort proving decisive. Her winning margin over the silver medalist was an impressive 8.77 meters.

The young athlete's success is not limited to youth competitions. Yan has consistently shown her prowess against senior athletes, including the 2024 Chinese Athletics Grand Prix, where she shattered the U20 world youth record with a throw of 64.28 meters. Despite this achievement, she was unable to compete at the Paris Olympics due to age restrictions.

Yan's triumph at the Athletics U20 Championships further solidifies her status as a rising star in the world of athletics.
