Ningbo-based Yixin Smart Technology Co Ltd has been selected for Hong Kong's first batch of low-altitude economy Regulatory Sandbox pilot projects, marking a significant breakthrough for the company in applying its unmanned aerial logistics expertise internationally.
Chosen from 72 global applicants, Yixin Smart was the dark horse and will now partner with Lalamove, a Hong Kong-based on-demand logistics startup, to develop an end-to-end drone delivery system in Hong Kong. The collaboration aims to integrate Yixin Smart's customized drone technology with Lalamove's extensive logistics network, laying the groundwork for a scalable, tech-driven air delivery model.
"Our strength lies in tailored drone development, from R&D to intelligent manufacturing," said Huang Zheke, urban operations manager at Yixin Smart, "Teaming up with Lalamove allows us to combine cutting-edge hardware with real-world logistics expertise, accelerating the adoption of unmanned aerial delivery services."
Hong Kong's Regulatory Sandbox, launched by the local government, serves as a controlled environment where companies can trial innovative solutions under relaxed regulatory conditions. This initiative focuses on advancing drone logistics, urban air mobility, and low-altitude traffic management by collaborating with top technology firms and research institutions worldwide.
As part of the pilot program, Yixin Smart will contribute to designing and testing a low-altitude logistics network in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The initial phase will prioritize medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and document deliveries, addressing logistics challenges in remote areas such as outlying islands. By optimizing drone-based delivery, the company aims to cut costs for small and medium-sized enterprises while establishing standardized operations in complex urban settings.
In its four years, Yixin Smart has already secured over 10 national patents and holds Ningbo's first Civil Aviation Administration of China drone logistics license. The company has also built more than 30 drone delivery routes across Ningbo, serving communities, commercial hubs, and rural villages.
"This program provides a valuable opportunity for us to align with international standards and gain insights into global drone logistics practices," Huang said, "It's a crucial step in putting China's low-altitude economy on a larger stage."
