Ningbo-Zhoushan Port's Meishan terminal saw new heights in new energy vehicle (NEV) exports as 2,787 BYD NEVs were loaded onto the container ship Green Itapoa on March 23. This shipment reflects China's growing presence in the global automotive market, with exports surging this year.
Just over 20 days ago, 572 framed containers and 44 standard containers carrying 1,584 NEVs were shipped from Meishan Port to Vitoria Port in Brazil. Alongside another batch of over 5,000 NEVs transported via roll-on/roll-off vessels, Meishan Port has facilitated three large-scale NEV exports in less than a month, totaling nearly 10,000 vehicles.
In the first two months of 2025, Ningbo Port exported 47,200 vehicles, doubling that of the previous year. NEVs accounted for 26,900 units—a staggering 439 percent increase—comprising 57 percent of total vehicle exports. Major markets such as the United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, and Brazil recorded sharp rises in imports of Chinese NEVs, solidifying their reputation as high-quality products.
The success stems from Ningbo's logistical advantages and streamlined processes, including BYD's dedicated roll-on/roll-off ships. Ningbo's two roll-on/roll-off shipping routes and 53 container ones extend its reach across North America, the Middle East, and Asia.
This growth highlights Ningbo's competitive edge and the expanding global influence of China's NEV industry.
