The 4th China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) Expo & International Consumer Goods Fair, held in Ningbo from May 22 to 25, spotlighted Slovenia as the guest country of honor, emphasizing themes of sustainability, innovation, and technology.
Meira Hot, deputy speaker of the Slovenian National Assembly, reiterated Slovenia's ambition to be a European hub for digital and green technology while deepening collaborations with China.
China remains Slovenia's largest trading partner in Asia. Hot noted that long-term trust underpins trade growth despite a slight Slovenian trade deficit. She highlighted the partnership between pharmaceutical firm KRKA and Ningbo Menovo, demonstrating the mutual benefits of cross-border cooperation.
A key focus was Koper Port, which Slovenia envisions as China's primary entry point to Europe. Infrastructure enhancements and optimized logistics networks are underway under the Belt and Road Initiative. Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and Koper Port maintain direct shipping routes, aiming to increase freight frequency.
Beyond logistics, digital trade integration is advancing, with Slovenian firms making use of e-commerce platforms to expand into China. Slovenia's expertise in automotive technology, robotics, and lightweight materials complements China's electric vehicle industry.
Hot also emphasized cultural exchange, encouraging Chinese travelers to experience Slovenia's ecological beauty. The alignment of sustainability goals and technological collaboration continues to strengthen ties between the two nations, paving the way for future economic growth.
