China-CEE trade flourishes over a decade

China's trade with Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries has expanded steadily over the past decade, with trade indices reaching new highs. From the historic Silk Road to modern freight networks, this partnership continues to evolve, deepening economic ties and fostering innovation.

According to Ningbo Customs, the China-CEE Trade Prosperity Index peaked at 150.84 points in 2024, marking a 50.84-point increase from 2015 and a 5.18-point rise from 2023. In the first four months of 2025, China's trade with CEE countries totaled 329.68 billion yuan ($45.85 billion), up 5.6 percent year-on-year, demonstrating strong trade momentum.

China's trade density with CEE nations has consistently increased, with Serbia emerging as a key trade partner. The trade density index with Serbia surged to 804.18 points, up 169.54 points from 2023. Companies such as Ningbo Kangbai Co have benefited from this trend, significantly growing exports following the China-Serbia Free Trade Agreement.

Infrastructure improvements have strengthened trade links, with the transport connectivity index reaching a record 156.80 points in 2024, reflecting enhanced logistical efficiency.
