Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is a city renowned for its history, culture, and artistic legacy. Spanning 102 square kilometers and with a population of nearly 400,000 people, it remains a major economic and cultural hub in Italy.
Founded by the Romans in 59 BC, Florence flourished under the Medici family, becoming the birthplace of the Renaissance. Its rich heritage is reflected in landmarks like Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, the Baptistery, and the Uffizi Gallery.
The city has long been a center for fashion and industry, housing luxury brands like Gucci and Prada. It hosts the world-famous Pitti Uomo fashion event and excels in finance, biotechnology, and design. As a leading tourist destination, Florence attracts over 10 million visitors annually, with its historic district recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Florence and Ningbo officially became sister cities in 2008, forging ties in trade, culture, and fashion. Their partnership began in 2003, expanding to include joint exhibitions, educational exchanges, and diplomatic visits. Notable milestones include cultural gift exchanges, trade discussions, and annual collaborative events.
In 2025, Florence Mayor Sara Furano sent a New Year's greeting for Ningbo's Spring Festival gala, symbolizing their continued friendship and cooperation.
