Hai Phong, Vietnam's third-largest city and second-largest seaport, plays a vital role as Hanoi's maritime gateway.
With over 2 million residents and a GDP of $16.5 billion (2023), the city has evolved into a major hub for manufacturing, trade, and international investment. Companies such as LG, Hyosung, GE, and Vingroup have implemented key projects here.
Hai Phong Port, with its 150-year history, features a 2,500-meter quay, advanced facilities, and handles over 100 million metric tons of cargo annually.
The city has four universities and 60 vocational institutions, producing 45,000 graduates each year.
The city also offers rich tourism resources. Cat Ba Island is a national nature reserve filled with rare species and scenic bays, while Do Son is known for its beach resorts.
Ningbo and Hai Phong's partnership began in 2011, followed by exchanges through port cooperation forums and training programs under the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2020, both cities formalized their relationship with a memorandum of friendly cooperation.
