The Suwon Convention Center in South Korea was vibrant with Chinese traditions on Aug 20, as a folk-art exchange exhibition opened. This event, celebrating the 33rd anniversary of China-South Korea diplomatic relations, featured nearly 100 handcrafted pieces from Ningbo, Zhejiang.
The exhibition displayed Ningbo's rich folk artistry, including gold-and-silver embroidery, bamboo weaving, and traditional button-making. South Korean visitors were captivated by the craftsmanship and eagerly took part in interactive demonstrations. Local delicacies like the Jinshi cake and Liangnong rice cake added a flavorful touch, charming attendees with their nostalgic aromas and cultural significance.
Organized by cultural associations from both countries, this marked Ningbo's first collective appearance at the Suwon Arts Festival. The event also featured calligraphy, slippers, and creative products inspired by Ningbo's jinshi (those passing ancient Chinese imperial examinations) heritage.
At this year's Suwon Art Festival, Chen Lina, a Ningbo cultural ambassador, led the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music's guqin troupe in a live performance of traditional pieces, demonstrating the mysterious charm of Eastern art.
Chen said, "We aren't simply bringing Ningbo folk art to South Korea. Instead, we're sharing our rural culture and stories with our neighbors. Through mutual exchange, we can find shared cultural values and a sense of identity, truly forging new paths for cultural outreach."
