The Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC, hosted the Experience China: A Symphony of Stories on China-US People-to-People on Aug 27, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Chinese and American forces uniting against fascism.

Co-organized by China's State Council Information Office and the Chinese embassy and consulate general in the United States, the event attracted over 300 guests, including Xie Feng, the Chinese ambassador to the US, and representatives from American civic organizations.

The Ningbo Symphony Orchestra, joined by performers from Guilin and Quzhou, delivered a powerful musical tribute. Their repertoire blended Western classics like Antonin Dvorak's American and Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings with Chinese folk pieces such as Jasmine Flower. Each selection echoed historical moments of cross-national cooperation — from the Nanjing Massacre rescue efforts to the Flying Tigers' collaboration in Guilin.

Opening with the beloved Chinese piece Butterfly Lovers, the orchestra showcased Ningbo's cultural depth, offering American audiences a glimpse into the city's spirit. The evening culminated in a heartfelt group rendition of Auld Lang Syne, symbolizing enduring friendship.

The event featured a historical exhibition and live performances, weaving music with wartime narratives. As part of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, a second concert will be held at the Chinese Consulate General in New York on Aug 29.
