Teams from 15 countries and regions are gathering in Fenghua district, Ningbo, for the 2025 Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championship, held from Oct 23 to 26, with 31 teams aiming for qualification in the 2026 IFAF World Championships.
China's men's team is making its international debut. Wide receiver Zhang Junyao said he had long aspired to compete internationally and was determined to give his all for the team. The team's performance offered a comforting sense of home before their first matches.
The Chinese women's team will face a challenging opener against Japan on Oct 24, a strong opponent and winner of the 2023 IFAF Asia-Oceania Flag Football Championship.
The team official noted that they have carefully analyzed Japan's tactics and intend to build on the experience and fighting spirit they demonstrated at the Chengdu World University Games, where they defeated Japan 28:22.
The IFAF Sport Manager Lars Carlsen praised Ningbo for its hospitality, impressive venues, and supportive atmosphere. He noted that hosting the championship allows local audiences to engage with flag football and emphasized the tournament's importance, as it serves as a qualifier for both the 2026 World Championships and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
