Ningbo's pioneering energy transition initiatives are gaining global attention, showcasing how clean power and innovative solutions can reshape urban and industrial landscapes.
At the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), held from Nov 10 to 21 in Belem, Brazil, Ningbo's practices were featured as a model during the Strengthening Capacity Building for the Energy Transition session on Nov 15. The event, organized by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization, drew over 80 representatives from UN agencies, governments, and international organizations.
Ningbo's achievements highlight multiple facets of energy transformation. At Meishan port area of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Zhejiang's first green power terminal now integrates wind, solar, and energy storage, generating more than 40 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by roughly 24,000 metric tons.
In manufacturing, Ningbo has upgraded its compressed air and building energy systems. At IKD Co, these improvements save 6.2 million kWh annually, reducing carbon output by 4,400 metric tons.
Meanwhile, in Longguan township, rooftop solar panels across all households in 10 villages produce 12 million kWh yearly, cutting emissions by over 10,000 metric tons.
A five-minute video presented at COP30 illustrated Ningbo's broad portfolio of initiatives, from green terminals and urban fast-charging stations to smart streetlights, drawing strong interest from attendees.
"We hope this platform allows the world to see how Ningbo is translating energy transition into concrete action," said an official from State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company.
