Ningbo stood out as a major force in Zhejiang's private sector in 2025, hosting 569,100 private enterprises and ranking third in the province after Hangzhou and Jinhua.
Zhejiang ended the year with 3.76 million registered private enterprises, accounting for 91.9 percent of all business entities and marking a 7.5 percent year‑on‑year increase.
Together with Hangzhou, Jinhua, and Wenzhou, Ningbo forms a core cluster that accounts for 70 percent of Zhejiang's private‑sector base, underscoring its strategic importance in the province's economic structure.
Ningbo's strength lies in its deep industrial foundation. As one of China's three major small‑home‑appliance manufacturing hubs, the city is home to over 2,000 appliance producers, forming a dense and competitive industrial chain.
By the end of 2025, the number of private enterprises engaged in scientific research and technical services reached 395,700, up 13.51 percent year on year. Those operating in information transmission, and software and information technology services totaled 261,300, marking a 12.53 percent increase – the fastest growth rates among all industries.
