Ningbo has recently designated two new 3A-level tourist destinations, both open free to visitors, offering a combination of culture, nature, and authentic local experiences.
Haishu Maoxin Scenic Area in Maoxin village, Haishu district, blends the charm of a traditional Jiangnan water town with rich cultural heritage and interactive space-agriculture exhibits. Visitors can stroll along tranquil canals and explore the Chinese Imperial Censor Museum and Ningbo Family Values Hall, which highlight local stories of integrity and tradition. The area also features a life-size simulated space station and an interactive agricultural center, offering hands-on experiences that combine education with recreation.
Guests can take a break at the train-themed cafe and sample local rice specialties, including soft gray-gruel dumplings and sesame-coated sticky rice balls, reflecting the region's culinary traditions.
Nanshan Huayu Scenic Area in Ninghai county's Sangzhou town showcases tea gardens, colorful flower terraces, and historic pathways reminiscent of old courier routes. Hikers may encounter centuries-old protected trees, picturesque rural villages, and traditional farmland, where visitors can experience authentic aspects of local rural life. Seasonal delicacies such as wheat cakes, herb-flavored dumplings, red rice cakes, and handmade noodles are best enjoyed with fragrant tea from nearby plantations.
These newly designated 3A-level scenic areas in Ningbo offer winter visitors a rich blend of history, natural beauty, and local flavors.
