Over 13,000 runners participated in the 2026 Fenghua Marathon on March 22, navigating a course that highlights the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Ningbo's Fenghua district.
Known for its spectacular peach blossoms, the marathon route passes through riverside paths, historic villages, and notable cultural landmarks. Along the way, runners encountered more than 80 live performance spots, featuring traditional folk arts such as the nationally recognized Fenghua Cloth Dragon, alongside modern performances like street dance. The course was carefully redesigned to ensure a safer and smoother experience while maintaining the scenic and immersive character that distinguishes the race.
The event also emphasizes community and celebration. Couples ran together wearing special jerseys, enjoying interactive checkpoints and commemorative items. At the finish line, nine newlyweds participated in a ceremonial peach blossom wedding, highlighting the marathon's unique blend of athletic challenge and cultural experience.
But the marathon is more than just a race – it also supports tourism and local development. Participants received complimentary access to major scenic areas, discounts on accommodation and dining, and travel assistance. Villages along the route, including Linjia and Qingyun, have leveraged the event to attract visitors and stimulate local economic activity.
By combining sports, culture, and scenic landscapes, the Fenghua Marathon has become a signature event in Ningbo, offering an international-level race that celebrates both athletic achievement and regional identity.
