International students in Ningbo have experienced the unique charm of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) during a cultural exchange event held in Jiangbei district's Wenzhu community.
The event, jointly organized by community organizations, healthcare workers, and students from Ningbo University, combined wellness education with cultural interaction and introduced overseas students to the philosophy and practices of TCM.
The activity began with a lecture connecting China's traditional solar terms with TCM health concepts. Through stories of ancient Chinese physicians and seasonal wellness practices, the speaker encouraged international students to explore Chinese culture through everyday experiences.
Doctors from the local community health center later demonstrated practical TCM techniques for summer health, including methods to relieve fatigue, reduce internal dampness, and prevent heatstroke. Acupuncture quickly became the highlight of the event, attracting strong interest from the international students.
Bars, an Iraqi student at Ningbo University, volunteered to try acupuncture to ease pain in his calf muscles.
"I was a little nervous at first, but it felt amazing," he said. "After the treatment, my leg felt much more relaxed."
After the TCM workshop, the students prepared herbal tea and handmade mosquito-repellent sachets for local delivery riders, sharing care and kindness across cultures.
Located near Ningbo University, Wenzhu community is home to thousands of residents from nearly 100 countries. Local officials have said more creative cultural exchange activities will be organized to strengthen connections between international residents and the local community.
