Ningbo International School earns CIS accreditation

The Ningbo British International School (NBIS) has become the first school in Zhejiang province to receive accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS).

CIS is one of the world's most respected international education organizations, with more than 1,500 member schools across 122 countries and regions. Its accreditation process evaluates schools across nine key areas, including governance, teaching quality, student well-being, and staffing. Schools typically undergo years of self-assessment and external review before earning accreditation.

NBIS joined CIS as a member school in April 2023 and completed a three-year preparation and evaluation process before earning full accreditation in June.

Founded in 2005, NBIS was established to meet the educational needs of expatriate families living in the city. The school currently serves students from more than 50 countries and regions and has provided high-quality education to over 5,000 expatriate children since its founding.

In recent years, NBIS students have earned top honors in global Cambridge International examinations. Among the class of 2026 graduates, 88 percent have received offers from universities ranked among the world's top 100 in the QS World University Rankings, including Imperial College London, University College London, the University of Hong Kong, and Fudan University.

Principal Simon Attwood said the accreditation reflects the school's long-term commitment to high-quality international education and will serve as a foundation for future growth.
