Ningbo strengthens global reach through standard setting

Ningbo is strengthening its global competitiveness by moving beyond selling products to helping shape the technical standards that define international markets.

At the third Standardization Conference recently held in the city, officials announced that Ningbo-based enterprises and institutions have participated in the formulation or revision of 43 international standards, 5,086 national standards and 4,332 industry standards. Since the beginning of 2025, the city has newly participated in the development of nine international standards and 1,095 national standards, reaching a record high.

The city's "standardization plus" strategy encourages companies to combine technological innovation, patent development and standard setting, enabling them to gain a stronger voice in emerging industries.

One example is Ningbo-based SynSense, which is leading the development of a national standard for testing dynamic vision sensors used in brain-inspired computing. Meanwhile, Ningbo Rongda Photoelectric Technology is leading the formulation of four International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards.

Earlier this year, an ISO standard for propylene oxide products led by Ningbo ZRCC Lyondell Chemical became China's first international standard in the field.

Government support is accelerating this trend. Today, more than 110 of Ningbo's 119 national manufacturing champion enterprises and over 400 national "little giants", or outstanding specialized, high-tech small and medium-sized enterprises, have participated in standard setting, helping transform Ningbo from a manufacturing hub into a global leader in standards development for advanced industries.
