Fishing boats set sail in Xiangshan, bringing fresh seafood to Ningbo tables

After Typhoon Dolphin moved away, 1,187 specially permitted fishing boats from Xiangshan county in Ningbo set sail for the East China Sea on the afternoon of Aug 11.

At 2 pm, whistles and firecrackers marked their departure from Shipu Port. Residents gathered along the shore, eagerly awaiting the first catch of the season.

The fleet mainly targets popular seafood species such as silver pomfret, yellow croaker, shrimp, crab, and mantis shrimp. Most boats are expected to return within three or four days, while some smaller vessels can bring their catch back to port on the same day, sending fresh seafood to local markets.

Before departing, fishermen made thorough preparations, stocking up on food and daily necessities while checking their lifesaving, firefighting, and communication equipment.

Meanwhile, Xiangshan's maritime and fishery authorities have strengthened safety inspections and patrols at five major fishing-boat exits, ensuring vessels meet safety requirements before heading offshore.

With special fishing operations now underway, fresh seafood from the East China Sea is set to make its way onto dining tables across Ningbo, giving residents access to a wide variety of seasonal catches once again.
