Ningbo airport streamlines carry-on checks for outbound passengers

International passengers departing from Ningbo Lishe International Airport now need to put their carry-on luggage through just one screening, following the launch of a joint customs and aviation security check on Sept 14.

Previously, customs and airport security screened carry-on bags separately, requiring passengers to queue twice and send their luggage through two different checks.

Under the new system, customs and security officers use the same screening process, with images shared simultaneously between the two sides. Passengers complete health quarantine and immigration procedures before proceeding to the joint screening area, where they check their carry-on luggage once.

The airport has upgraded screening equipment and redesigned parts of the departure area to support the change, including new systems for sharing inspection information.

The streamlined process comes as international travel through the city continues to grow, with Ningbo airport handling 156,300 international passengers during this year's summer travel period, up 18.18 percent from the previous period.

The change is designed to cut waiting times and make international departures more convenient by eliminating repeated queues and luggage screening.
