Ruo'ao village, situated in the scenic landscape of Ninghai county, Ningbo, has been recognized as a model for preserving and vitalizing traditional villages in China. Selected as one of 30 exemplary cases nationwide in 2024, it is the sole representative from Ningbo.

With a history of over 600 years, Ruo'ao village combines cultural heritage with modern artistic innovation to drive rural development. The village has allocated agricultural funds to create cultural spaces such as the Ancient Camphor Plaza, artistic vegetable gardens, and cultural squares around homestays. Additionally, repurposed industrial spaces now house businesses like the Yujing Homestay and Youji Coffee Bar, boosting the local economy.

A notable initiative is the Ruo'ao Three Treasures Common Prosperity Workshop, which offers training in traditional handicrafts, hands-on cultural experiences, and displays local specialties like Ruo'ao wine and loquat syrup. This initiative not only boosts village income by 400,000 yuan ($55,644) annually but also creates employment opportunities for residents.

Ruo'ao villagers contribute to artistic installations. The preservation of Chu family values and coastal defense culture further integrates historical elements into village development.

Through creative and community-driven efforts, Ruo'ao village is becoming a thriving cultural tourism landmark while retaining its rich heritage.
