Ningbo-born badminton player Wang Chang won silver in the men's doubles at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sept 29, partnering with Liang Weikeng to secure a podium finish.
The Chinese pair fought three games against Indonesia's Daniel Marthin and Leo Rolly Carnando before falling 1-2 in the final. After taking the opening game 21-19, Liang and Wang lost the second 13-21 and the deciding game 18-21.
Despite missing out on gold, reaching the final was a significant achievement for Chinese men's doubles badminton, marking the first time in 36 years that a Chinese men's doubles pair had reached the Asian Games final since Li Yongbo and Tian Bingyi won the title at the 1990 Beijing Asian Games.
For Wang and Liang, the result also reflected their strong comeback on the Asian stage. At the Hangzhou Asian Games three years ago, the pair exited in the round of 16 as Wang struggled with illness. Since then, they have risen to become one of China's top men's doubles pairs, winning silver at the Paris Olympics and the world championship title.
Throughout the tournament in Nagoya, the duo showed strong form, defeating opponents from Malaysia and Indonesia to reach their first Asian Games final. Wang said the match provided valuable experience and confidence for the future of Chinese men's doubles badminton.
